GUGGENHEIM KRIŠTAN
Two telephone boxes made completely of wood were placed on the abandoned Krištan Farm in an isolated, hard to reach mountainous location near the Slovenian border. They were replicas of Austrian multi-media stations (with internet, e-mail, texting, etc.), and measured 15% less than the originals. On the two of the telephone box’s advertising panels were pictures of the mountain below the farm. The drawing on the mountain’s side was a sectional view of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, at a scale of 1:1. A list of present, former, and planned Guggenheim Museums (a total of 23) and a world map presented the ambitions of the Guggenheim Foundation for the creation of “the first truly global museum”.
A part of the project is the internet page www.guggenheim-kristan.at.
Guggenheim Krištan was part of a major project Klopfzeichnen/Colp/Potrkavanje 2009/10, a trilateral project organised by UNIKUM, University of Klagenfurt/Celovec.
